Roland was a member of the Tomah High School Graduating Class of 1945. On Sept. 27, 1952, he was united in marriage to Doris M. Bernhardt at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Tomah. Roland was one of a kind. He loved people and when he and Doris traveled throughout the U.S., with their camper. His first job would be to set up and then he would set out to meet the fellow campers. Roland would always inquire with folks where they were from and what did they do. He loved sharing stories with friends and new acquaintances, which usually ended with sharing a laugh or two. Many, who knew Roland, knew of his great sense of humor. Getting together with friends and family was always important to Roland. He created the annual Buddy Reunion get together and also helped organize the annual Derby parties.

He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting locally and with friends; the hunting trips out west were some of his most memorable. He had a special love for the cottage on Castle Rock Lake, and shared so very many precious memories with his family and friends there. Roland also had a generous heart, always quick to lend a helping hand. He will be dearly missed and remembered by those that loved him.
