Alan died on 24 September 2003 at the age of 79 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.37 He was buried on 29 September 2003 in Tunnel City, Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.37 in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Alan LeRoy BETTHAUSER and Arlene Marcella WAEGE were married on 27 February 1943 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.37,89 Arlene Marcella WAEGE, daughter of Ferdinand Gottlieb WAEGE and Anna Marie DEGLER, was born on 16 May 1924 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.9,89,90 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 She appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.87 She was living with her parents. Arlene graduated in 1941 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.88,91 from Tomah High School. She died on 20 October 2011 at the age of 87 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.92 Obituary Notes: "Arlene Marcella (Waege) Betthauser, 87, of Tomah, died on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at Close to Home Assisted Living in Tomah. She was born on May 16, 1924 to Ferdinand and Anna (Degler) Waege in Tomah.

She graduated from the Tomah High School in 1941 and was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Alan Betthauser on February 27, 1943 in Tomah. They were blessed with eight children.

In addition to raising her children and helping out with her grandchildren, Arlene raised and tended a large garden, served as the Town Treasurer for the Town of Greenfield for many years and was a 4-H leader. She was an active member of the Tarr Valley Homemakers and the Ladies' Mission Circle at her church. Arlene was a member of the Tomah Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer at the ABC store and worked at the city elections. She was a long time faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah.

She moved to Touch of Home/Close to Home in April of 2002 and has resided there until her death. Arlene considered her apartment there as her home and the staff there as her family. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, playing bingo and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed playing pinochle with her grandsons. Arlene was a kind, thoughtful, caring and giving person. Her battle with her illness kept her with us much longer than ever expected. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Glen (friend Mary Groothuis) Betthauser of Reedsburg, Gerald "Boomer" (Karen) Betthauser of Tomah, Gloria (Gary) Shutter of Tomah, Judi DeWitt of Tomah, Michael (Kim) Betthauser of Lyndon Station, Greg (Carol) Betthauser of Tomah, Cindy (Brian) Abendschein of Taylor and Wendy (Todd) Wright of Millston; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Laudon and DonElaine Zimmerman; and three sisters-in-law, Wilda Jensen, Lori Waege and Arlene Waege. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends."
