"Lottie" COOME was born on 18 December 1863 in New Buffalo Township, Sauk County, WI.10,16,32 She appeared in the census in 1880 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.1 Her occupation was listed as "Attending." About 1882 she was a school teacher in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.33,34 From an article in the March 25, 1882 Tomah Journal: "Miss Lottie Coome will teach the school at Greenfield the coming year." Lottie appeared in the census in 1895 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.35 She appeared in the census in 1900 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.16 She appeared in the census in 1905 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.36 Her occupation was "Farmer." Lottie died on 6 December 1905 at the age of 41 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.32,37 She was buried after 6 December 1905 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.32,38 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.

Charlotte A. "Lottie" COOME and Alvin James VANDERVORT (+) were married on 27 December 1883 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.15,32,39 (Her surname is listed as "Coomes" in the Monroe County marriage registration records.) Alvin James VANDERVORT (+), son of Isaac VANDERVORT and Laura Ann FOSS, was born on 18 August 1862 in Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County, WI.1,10,40,41 (He is also reported to have been born 18 March 1863, but his gravestone indicates that he died at the age of 35 years, 6 months and 10 days. That would put his birth date at 18 August 1862. The article about his death also reported that he was 35 years old at his death.)

He appeared in the census in 1870 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.3 He appeared in the census in 1875 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.7 Alvin appeared in the census in 1880 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.1 He appeared in the census in 1895 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.35 There were 2 males and 1 female in his household, but their given names were not listed. He died on 28 February 1898 at the age of 35 in Madison, Dane County, WI.10,38,41,42 in the Mendota Mental Institution.

"He lived a short but very full and useful life. In his early twenties he already owned an 80-acre farm and some property in the City of Tomah, Wisconsin. When he was 26 (1891) he sold his farm and moved into the new home he had built in Tomah. The following few years he worked at the McKenna Mill, a large sawmill 20 miles north of Tomah. He invented a logging sleigh which was recognized as the best in that part of the country. It became known as the Vandervort Sleigh. In 1897 he sold his city home and purchased a 93-acre farm on which he had another new home built. The following February at age 35 he died of acute Exhaustion from the Flu."
