Irene Gertrude ERDMANN was born on 10 October 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.21,22,34,51 She was a member of the First Baptist Church about 1926 in Warrens, Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.52 She died on 8 June 2009 at the age of 98 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.51

Irene Gertrude Erdmann was born on Oct. 9, 1910, in Tomah to Emil and Emma (Butterfuss) Erdmann. She was raised in the Tomah area. She married Carl Goetzka on Jan. 18, 1930, in Tomah.

Irene and Carl had four children, Donald, Shirley, Janice and Gilbert. Carl Goetzka died on June 24, 1973.

In addition to being a homemaker, Irene had many jobs throughout her life, including at restaurants and Fort McCoy for years.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Millston. She played organ in various churches for many years. She was a very dedicated church member and an inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, preserving foods and playing cards (500, euchre and pinochle).

Survivors include two sons, Donald (Shirley) Goetzka and Gilbert (Barbara) Goetzka, both of Warrens; a daughter, Janice Chopp of Shamrock; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Joe Benoit of Tomah; a former son-in-law, Gilbert (Marian) Van Dinter of Tomah; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Carl, Irene was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Benoit; two sisters, Margaret and Vienna; a son-in-law, Michael Chopp; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Goetzka, and a grandson, Keith Goetzka.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Millston. Rev. Lawrence Bade will officiate. Burial will be in the Knapp Cemetery, Town of Knapp, Jackson County. Family and friends may call at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, today (Thursday) from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until services. The family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church of Millston."

Irene Gertrude ERDMANN and Carl GOETZKA were married on 18 January 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.34,51,53 Carl GOETZKA, son of Charles F. GOETZKA and Elizabeth H. BELTZ, was born in 1904 in Wisconsin.37,38 He appeared in the census in 1910 in Knapp Township, Jackson County, WI.38 He appeared in the census in 1920 in Knapp Township, Jackson County, WI.39 Carl appeared in the census in April 1930 in Knapp Township, Jackson County, WI.53 His occupation was "Farmer, General Farm." He died on 24 June 1973 at the age of 69 in Eau Claire, Eau Claire Township, Eau Claire County, WI.30,37

Obituary Notes: "Carl Goetzka, 68, Town of Knapp, Jackson County, died Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hospital. He was born in 1904 in the Town of Knapp and farmed in the area most of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert Van Dinter, Millston, Mrs. Michael Chopp, Black River Falls; two sons, Donald and Gilbert, both of Warrens; four sisters, Mrs. Clara Daily, Hunters Beach, Calif., Irene, Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Ernest Gardner, Weyauwega, Mrs. Norman Daly, South Milwaukee; two brothers, Frank and Emil, both of Warrens; and 19 grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Millston Community Church with the Rev. Clarence Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Knapp Cemetery. Friends may call at the Langlois-Galston Funeral Home in Black River Falls Tuesday afternoon and evening. Public prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday."
