Descendants of Henrey Ferrest (Ferris)

Henrey Ferrest is the earliest-known ancestor of what became the Ferries family in Monroe County. He was born about 1669 in Cornwall County, England.

One of his descendants, William J. Ferries, was born in England in 1808 and emigrated to America in 1826. William was first married to Margaret Evans, and then to Lovisa Beebe. Lovisa was the widowed mother of Martha Jane Watrous, who married Samuel Hiram Griswold in 1851.

William H., the oldest son of William J., came to Monroe County in about 1856 and married Margaret Harland. Their seven children and their descendants married into local families such as Brandau, Dempsey, Gehrke, Gerke, Harland, Martalock, Popp, Waege and Wurster.
