Florence FRANZ and William "Howard" TAFT Sr. (\) were married on 30 June 1937.⁸² William "Howard" TAFT Sr. (\), son of Wallace Frederich TAFT and Minnie Etta ROOT, was born on 23 May 1917 in Monroe County, WI.^31,81,82,83 (The Monroe County Birth Registration Index lists his year of birth as 1917, but other sources list it as 1916.)

One of his hobbies was genealogy. He appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁶ He appeared in the census in 1930 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁷ Howard appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.³⁷ His household was at 1611 Superior Avenue and his occupation was "Livestock Dealer, Buying and Selling Livestock." He died of tuberculosis on 25 August 1980 at the age of 63.^82,84 He was buried on 28 August 1980 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^33,85 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
