101. Harvey Eugene GNEWIKOW was born on 7 September 1925 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.26,39,63 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.39 He died on 26 May 2004 at the age of 78 in Oakdale, Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.26

Obituary Notes: "Harvey E. Gnewikow, 78, of Oakdale, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at his home. He was born Sept. 7, 1925, to Walter and Emma (Lietz) Gnewikow in the Township of Wilton. He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Jensen Feb. 1, 1947, at Black River Falls.

He retired from the Oakdale Electric Cooperative after 40 years of service without a lost time accident. Harvey was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, card playing and spending time with his family. Harvey was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Alice of Oakdale; three daughters, Sandra (Grant) Doyle of Fairbanks, AK, Patricia (Edward) Towne of LaValle and Charlotte (Thomas) Madson of Elk River, MN; nine grandchildren, Cary (Karen) Muehlenkamp, Shelly (Dennis) Lange, Philene (Cory) Rasmussen, Susan (Terrence) Raupp, Anthony Keichinger (Teri Keene), Rebecca (Kurt) Rhinehart, Jeremy (Vicki) Towne, Eric (Lisa) Madson, Randy (Linda ) Madson; 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Delwin of Elroy;, a sister, LaVonne Graewin of Wilton; a sister-in-law, Laura Gnewikow of Tomah; a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leonard, Loren and an infant brother, John; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Gnewikow and Lottie Gnewikow, and a brother-in-law, Roger Graewin.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah. Pastor Donald R. Buch officiated. Burial was at the Dannavang Cemetery, Town of Lincoln, with military honors by Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201.

Relatives and friends called on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service."
Harvey was buried on 29 May 2004 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.26 in the Dannavang Cemetery.

Harvey Eugene GNEWIKOW and Mary Alice JENSEN were married on 1 February 1947 in Black River Falls, Jackson County, WI.26,192 Mary Alice JENSEN, daughter of Nels Ulrich JENSEN and Idabelle Caroline ATKINSON, was born on 20 May 1928.193,194 She graduated in 1946 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.193,195 from Tomah High School. She died on 17 October 2014 at the age of 86 in Oakdale, Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.196

Obituary Notes: "Mary Alice Gnewikow, 86, of Oakdale died Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 20, 1928, to Nels and Idabelle (Atkinson) Jensen. She was a baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Kirby. She was a member of the Tomah Senior High School Graduating Class of 1946.

Mary was united in marriage to Harvey Gnewikow, Feb. 1, 1947, at Black River Falls. He preceded her in death May 26, 2004. She held various jobs throughout her life but her passions were the Village of Oakdale and her antiques. She held numerous village positions and was instrumental in incorporating Oakdale into a Village. She retired from the Village of Oakdale in 2010.

Mary worked as an independent antique dealer for 44 years and was a member of Western Wisconsin Antique Dealers Association. She had a green thumb and enjoyed growing flowers, fruits and vegetables. She was an excellent cook and was known for her homemade candies and apple pies. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church.

Most important to Mary was her family, she loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren very much, they will always remember visits to grandma’s, playing cards and staying up until all hours of the night. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a proud grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Mary was a kind and caring person with a gentle personality.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Doyle of Fairbanks, Alaska, Patricia Towne of La Valle, and Charlotte (Thomas) Madson of Elk River, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Cary (Karen) Muehlekamp, Shelly (Dennis) Lange, Philene (Cory) Rasmussen, Susan (Terrence) Raupp, Anthony Keichinger (Teri Keene), Rebecca Towne, Jeremy (Vicki) Towne, Eric Madson, Randy (Linda ) Madson; 23 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Delores (Loyal) Larson of New Lisbon, Beatrice Streeter of Beloit, Janice Mahany of Cleveland, Ohio, Marlea (Victor) Evans of Camp Douglas; four brothers, Marvin (Joyce) Jensen of Tomah, Nels Jr. (Nancy) Jensen of Camp Douglas, Dennis Jensen of Tomah, and Junates “Jake” Jensen of Tomah; three sisters-in-law, Laura Gnewikow of Tomah, Regis “Peggy” Jensen of Tomah and Lillian Jensen of Sparta; many nieces, nephews; a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Harvey; and two son-in-laws, Grant Doyle and Edward Towne; three sisters, Genvieve Jensen, Agnes Webster and Ruth Hearth; five brothers, Carl Jensen, Ray Jensen, Arnold Jensen, Norman Jensen and Kermit Jensen; nine brothers-in-law, Leonard, Loren, an infant John, Delwin and Roger Graewin, George Hearth, Tim Mahoney, Charles Streeter and Lawrence Webster; six sisters-in-law, Arlene Gnewikow, Lottie Gnewikow, LaVonne Graewin, Mildred Jensen, Bernice Jensen and Eloise Jensens.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah. Pastor Donald R. Buch will officiate. Burial will be in Dannavang Cemetery, town of Lincoln."
