1. Sir Matthew GOUGH Knight was born in 1386 in Maelor, Monmouthshire, Wales.¹ The Maelor is an area of north-east Wales along the border with England. It is now entirely part of Wrexham County Borough. The name Maelor is an old Welsh word: it can be translated as "land of the prince", from mael "prince" and llawr "low ground" "region." He died on 4 July 1450 at the age of 64 in London, Middlesex County, England.^1,2 He was killed on the London Bridge, defending the city of London. He was buried in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England.²
