Father Evans was converted at the age of twelve and joined the Free Will Baptist Church. He remained a member of that branch of the Christian church until he became a member of the Free Methodist Church in 1878.

He removed from New York to Wisconsin in 1873. Brother Evans was only sick about a week. He did not say much from the time he was taken sick. He died very easily, with a Heavenly smile upon his face. Every one who was acquainted with Brother Evans had confidence in his Christian experience. I was told that in the last meeting he attended, he rejoiced with great joy.

His funeral was on Tuesday, Jan. 18. There were quite a number of relatives and friends present, although the day was very cold. He leaves a beloved wife, one daughter and other relatives to mourn their loss. The writer preached his funeral sermon from the text found in Ps. xxxvii, 37: "Mark the perfect man and behold the upright, for the end of that man is peace!" Written by Wm. Plant.
