1. August Friedrich "Frederick" KUHN was born in 1852 in Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,2,3,4 (The family name was changed from "Kuhn" or "Kuehn" to "Keene" after they arrived in America.) (He may have been a nephew of Wilhelm Friedrich Kuhn, 1814-1910, and Wilhelmine Schulz, who emigrated from Posen to Monroe County in 1857.) He emigrated in July 1887 from Preussen (Prussia).1,2,3,5 He died on 29 December 1895 at the age of 43 in Little Falls Township, Monroe County, WI.1,2,3,6

August Friedrich "Frederick" KUHN and Emilie T. K. "Amelia" HAMMON were married in 1872 in Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,2,5,7 The 1900 Census for Amelia, a widow, indicated that she had 11 children, of which 2 were living at the time. The "2" was not correct, because 6 of her children were living with her. Emilie T. K. "Amelia" HAMMON was born on 11 October 1848 in Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,3,5,7,8 (Some sources list her birth year as 1850, but it was listed as 1848 in the Monroe County Heritage Book articles. The 1900 Census listed her birth date as Oct 1848 and her age as 51.) (Her maiden name was spelled "Hammond" in Article 776.) She emigrated in July 1887 from Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).3,7 She appeared in the census in 1900 in Little Falls Township, Monroe County, WI.5 Amelia died on 13 March 1921 at the age of 72 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.8

Karl "Carl" KEENE was born on 13 March 1876 in Preussen (Prussia).1,2,5,6 (His surname was spelled "Keene" in the 1900 Census.) He emigrated in July 1887 from Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,3 He appeared in the census in 1900 in Lafayette Township, Monroe County, WI.5 His occupation was listed as "Farm Laborer" in the household of Daniel and Laura Evans. Carl died on 12 July 1912 at the age of 36 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.2 He was employed on the Otto Schmeical farm six miles north of Sparta. A violent storm hit the area and he was struck by deadly lightning just as the last load of hay was being driven into the barn. Carl ran ahead of his team into the barn and was standing by a post when a bolt of lightning struck the roof of the barn, followed down the post, and killed him instantly. The barn and house were both destroyed by fire. He was buried in Cataract, Little Falls Township, Monroe County, WI.1
