He lived at his home in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI in March 2002.63

Ralph Gottlieb MATTHEWS and Elizabeth Lorraine "Betty" MOYER were married on 6 June 1948.155 Elizabeth Lorraine "Betty" MOYER was born on 30 December 1919 in Stevens Point, Portage County, WI.155 She died on 29 August 2011 at the age of 91 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.155

Obituary Notes: "Elizabeth Lorraine “Betty” Matthews, 91, Tomah, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Liberty Village Assisted Living. She was born on Dec. 30, 1919, to James Edward and May (Patterson) Moyer at Stevens Point.

Betty attended the Stevens Point High School, graduating in 1937. She then attended the State Teachers College of Stevens Point receiving a bachelor’s degree in education and later took a teaching position at the Miller Grade School in Tomah. She was united in marriage to Ralph Matthews on June 6, 1948.

Betty was a faithful and devoted member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving for many years on the Martha Mission Circle. Betty was very community-minded and very active in the Hiawatha Ladies Bridge and Golf clubs, the Shakespeare Club and the Amacitia Club, and she knitted many afghans for the Tomah Public Library. Betty enjoyed spending time outdoors in her vegetable and flower gardens. She also was an avid reader.

Together Betty and Ralph enjoyed traveling to many different places and taking yearly family vacations. Later in life they enjoyed taking trips to the casino. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ralph; a daughter, Deborah (Gene) Roberts of Waupaca; two sons Mark (Marna) Matthews of Black River Falls and John Matthews of Tomah; six grandchildren, Ali and Aaron Matthews, Sara (Kevin) Hanna, Jennifer M. (James) Moyer, Brian Roberts and Dana (Andy) Koeppler, five great-grandchildren, Ben and Jack Hanna, Alyssa and Matthew Moyer and Peyton Koeppler; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Bablitch, and a brother, Gilbert.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday (today), Sept. 1, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah. Pastor Curt S. Backhaus will officiate."
