Ernestina "Ernestine" KIRST and Bernhard "Bernard" DROWATZKY were married on 22 May 1864 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.12,16,17,18,19 According to the 1910 Census, they had 14 children, of whom 11 were living at the time. Bernhard "Bernard" DROWATZKY, son of Johann Karl DROWATZKY and Mary Elizabeth GESS, was born on 29 March 1837 in Preussen (Prussia).8,11,13,18,20 (The 1900 Census listed his birth date as May 1837.) He emigrated on 20 May 1855 from Preussen (Prussia).17,18,21 He appeared in the census in 1870 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.2 His occupation was "Farmer." About 1880 Bernard was a farmer in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.11 He appeared in the census in 1880 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.11 He lived 4 miles west of town in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI in June 1886.21 Bernard appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.13 His household was at 1608(?) Kilbourn Avenue in the 1st Ward. His given name was listed as "Peter" and his occupation was "Carpenter." He appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12 His household was on Kilbourn Avenue and his occupation was "Own Income." He appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.14 His household was at 1801 Kilbourn Avenue. Bernard died in 1925 at the age of 88.8,15 He was buried in 1925 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.8,15 in the Oak Grove Cemetery. He was a creamery operator.17 Bernhard was among the first settlers in this part of Monroe County. In 1890 he moved to Tomah where he and his son, Ernest, operated a creamery for several years. They received a medal and special merit from the World's Fair in Chicago for an exhibit they submitted. Bernard was a carpenter in Madison, Dane County, WI.17

While in Madison, Bernhard engaged in carpentry. In the fall of 1855 he and his brother Karl each pre-empted a tract of 160 acres in section 10 of Adrian Township. After pre-empting was done, claims had to be made at the land office in La Crosse and then return, after which their families and household good could follow. Bernhard's parents, John and Maria, came to Monroe County in 1857 and lived on the farm.
