The town, originally called Beodericsworth, was built on a grid pattern by Abbot Baldwin around 1080. He was buried on 20 April 1515.

The village has an Anglican church dedicated to All Saints."

(She may have been born in Stamford, Lincolnshire, England and her parents may have been Sir Anthony Browne and Lady Lucy Neville.) She died on 15 June 1523 at the age of 42 in Bury St. Edmunds, St. Edmundsbury Borough, West Suffolk District, Suffolk County, England. (The "Genealogy of The Griggs Family" lists his date of death as June 15, 1520; another source lists it as May 1523.) Her will was proven at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk County, England. She was buried on 30 April 1561 in Bures St. Mary, Babergh District, Suffolk County, England. in the Church yard. Bures St Mary is a civil parish in the Babergh district of the English county of Suffolk. The parish covers the eastern part of the village of Bures, the western part being in the Bures Hamlet parish in Essex divided by the River Stour. Joane has Ancestral File Number L8B4-KRQ.
