8. Valentine GRIFFIN was born on 5 November 1835 in New York.^1,5 (His surnames is spelled "Griffen" in the 1880 census.) He appeared in the census in 1850 in Monroe Township, Green County, WI.³ Between 1857 and 1880 he was a farmer and fur trapper in Angelo Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵ Valentine served in the military about 1858.²⁵ He eventually received a military pension of $3 per month for "wound, one thigh." He appeared in the census in 1860 in Angelo Township, Monroe County, WI.²¹ He appeared in the census in 1870 in Eaton Township, Monroe County, WI.²² Valentine appeared in the census in 1880 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁸ He appeared in the census in 1900 in Grant Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁶ He died on 17 November 1907 at the age of 72 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^1,5,27 Valentine was buried in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.^1,5,28 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.

Valentine GRIFFIN and Maryett "Mary" BROWN were married on 8 September 1856 in Delhi, Delaware County, IA.^4,27,29 Maryett "Mary" BROWN, daughter of Royal BROWN and Susanah SUTLEY, was born on 27 October 1838 in Venango County, PA.^5,21,27 She appeared in the census in 1910 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.³⁰ She died on 2 November 1917 at the age of 79 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^5,27 Mary was buried in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵ in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.
