Maria Friedrika "Marie" MARTEN was born on 1 September 1835 in Alt Brenz, Amt Neustadt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Province, Preussen (Prussia).5,6,7 (She was reported to have been born in Brenz, Neustadt, Mecklenburg, Germany. There is only one known city of Brenz, and that is in Bavaria, not Mecklenburg.) She emigrated in 1856 from Spornitz Neustadt, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Province, Preussen (Prussia).5,8 She appeared in the census in 1860 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.9 Marie appeared in the census in 1870 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.10 She appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.8 She was living with her son Christ. She appeared in the census in 1905 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.11 She was living with her son Christ and his family. Marie appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.12 She was living with her son Christian and his family. She died on 17 November 1916 at the age of 81 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.5,6,7 She was buried on 21 November 1916 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.5,6,7 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Maria Friedrika "Marie" MARTEN and August Christian Ludwig "Christian" MARTEN were married on 3 November 1856 in Germantown, Washington County, WI.5,8,13,14,15,16,17 The 1900 Census indicated that they had 8 children, of whom 6 were living at the time. (As far as can be determined, they were not related prior to their marriage.) August Christian Ludwig "Christian" MARTEN, son of Johann Joachim MARTEN and Anna Christina RUMPEL, was born on 11 December 1828 in Spornitz Neustadt, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Province, Preussen (Prussia).5,18 He emigrated in 1855 from Spornitz Neustadt, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Province, Preussen (Prussia).5 He appeared in the census in 1860 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.9 Christian was Lutheran in 1862 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.19 He was listed in the Church Register as member number 17 of the first 100 members of the congregation of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.10 His household consisted of him, his wife, his oldest 6 children, and Joseph Marten, age 15, born in Mecklenburg. He may have been their oldest child, but he was not listed in order with the rest of the children. He appeared in the census in 1880 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.20 Christian died on 31 August 1890 at the age of 61 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6,18 He was buried on 1 September 1890 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.5,6,18 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Emma Karoline Johanne MARTEN was born on 5 February 1863 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.21,22 (She is not listed with her family in the 1880 Census. She may already have married. There is a listing in the Monroe County Early Marriage Registration Index for a Emma J. Martin marrying John S. Scautelton on 19 May 1880. This may have been her.) She was baptized on 28 March 1863 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.22 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She died before June 1900 at the age of 37.8 (She must have died prior to the 1900 Census, which indicated that her parents had 8 children, of whom 6 were living at the time.)

Albert David Heinrich MARTEN was born on 20 February 1873 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.22 He was baptized on 10 March 1873 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.22 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He died on 17 July 1876 at the age of 3.5,22,23 Albert was buried on 18 July 1876.22
