Sarah Ann MEDD was born on 10 January 1864 in North La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.^5,9,39 She appeared in the census in 1870 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷ She appeared in the census in 1880 in Vernon County, WI.⁶ Her occupation was listed as "School Teacher." Sarah appeared in the census in 1905 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁰ She appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴¹ She appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴² Sarah died on 3 May 1937 at the age of 73 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^4,5,9,39,43

Obituary Notes: "Sarah Ann Medd, daughter of the Rev. John and Catherine Medd, was born at North La Crosse, Wis., Jan. 10, 1864, and departed this life at her home May 3, 1937.

The early years of her life were spent in the different charges her father held within the West Wisconsin conference of the Methodist church in this vicinity.

On Jan. 10, 1884, she was united in marriage to Lewis Vandervort of Tomah. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Fred Kohl, of Tomah, and Harold Vandervort, of Sparta, and two children who died in infancy. The first two years of her married life were spent in Minnesota. They then moved onto their farm in LaGrange. Here they resided until 1908 when they moved to Tomah, where she lived until her death.

She joined the Methodist church at an early age and was a life-long member. She took an active part in the Aid Society and Sunday School, being a teacher as long as she was able.
Outside of her family, her first thought was her church and a helping hand to others in time of need. She was taught the Christ life when a child and tried to live life as she had been taught.

Although she had been ailing for some time, here death came as a shock to relatives and friends.

Besides her husband and children, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Katie Vandervort, at Santa Cruz, California, five grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the home on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 and at the Methodist church at Tomah at 2:00, Rev. R. Harold Gede, pastor of the Methodist church at Sparta, officiating. Interment was made in the LaGrange cemetery."

Her cause of death was listed as "exhaustion, punicious anemia." She was buried on 6 May 1937 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.^39,44,45 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.

Sarah Ann MEDD and J. Lewis "Lute" VANDERVORT were married on 10 January 1884 in Avoca, Iowa County, WI.^{5,9,27,31,39,46} J. Lewis "Lute" VANDERVORT, son of Cornelius VANDERVORT and Julia Ann GETMAN, was born on 9 July 1860 in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, WI.^5,7,9,27 He appeared in the census in 1875 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.³³ He appeared in the census in 1880 in Yellow Bank Township, Lac Qui Parle, MN.³⁴ He was living next door to his brother William. In November 1881 Lute was a homesteader in Lac Qui Parle County, MN.³¹ He purchased homestead land in 1881 for $1.25 per acre, and sold the improved land in 1886 for $12.50 per acre. They then returned to LaGrange, WI to farm. Between 1886 and 1900 he was a farmer in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.^31,47 His 120-acre farm was located in the southeast corner of section 4. He appeared in the census in 1900 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁸ Lute appeared in the census in 1905 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁰ His occupation was "Farmer." He appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁹ He was living with his father, Cornelius, and his son Harold during the Census. His wife Sarah was not listed. He appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴¹ Lute appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴² He and his wife lived at 317 Hollister Avenue. He died on 31 July 1945 at the age of 85 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^9,31,43 (He may have died in LaGrange Township.)

His cause of death was listed as "coronary thrombosis, AS and exhaustion." He was buried in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.^44,45 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery
