Reverend John MEDD Sr. was born on 16 June 1815 in Swinton, Yorkshire, England.⁵ After 1859 he was a Methodist Preacher in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.^5,6 as well as in Vernon County, WI. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷ His occupation was listed as "Clergyman, Methodist." John appeared in the census in 1880 in Vernon County, WI.⁶ Their household consisted of David, Catherine and the three children. His occupation was listed as "Clergyman." He died on 27 February 1891 at the age of 75 in Avoca, Iowa County, WI.^4,8 He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁵ in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Reverend John MEDD Sr. and Ann HUDSON were married in 1845.⁵ Ann HUDSON died on 26 September 1856 in Berry Township, Dane County, WI.⁵ She was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England.⁵

An article in the Tomah Journal, dated March 25, 1882 noted: "The silver wedding of Rev. John Medd and his wife, at LaGrange Parsonage, was a happy affair, and enjoyed by many of the pleasant, portly pastor's picked friends." Catherine A. ROUSE, daughter of (Unknown) ROUSE and (Unknown) UNKNOWN (ROUSE), was born on 29 May 1827 in Otsego County, NY.^1,11 She appeared in the census in 1870 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.⁷ She appeared in the census in 1880 in Vernon County, WI.⁶ Catherine died on 6 August 1905 at the age of 78.¹¹ She was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.¹¹ in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
