The 1900 Census indicates that they had 3 children, of whom all were living at the time. The Census listed "Willie" and Bertha as living in the household, but not John, Jr, and Margaret. It is possible that Bertha was adopted, as she was listed in the 1905 Census as "Bertha Marquardt," a "Hired Hand." Thus, their three birth children would have been John, Jr., Margaret, and William.
