1. Friedrich Gottfried MITTELSTAEDT1 was born about 1813 in Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).2,3,4,5 (It must be confirmed that he was a member of this family. He is not listed as member on several FamilySearch.org websites of church records.

From the research of Matthew Mittelstaedt: "I've also found a death record for a Gottfried Mittelstaedt, but I'm still not 100% certain that he's the right one. His birth date makes him the most likely candidate to be Katharina's husband. Poznan marriage records say he was 28 and she was 19 in 1848."

He may have been the brother of Wilhelmine Mittelstaedt, who married Johann Manthey.) About 1835 he was .6 a "Shepherd." He lived in Lukowo, Kreis Wongrowitz. Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia) between 1844 and 1845.7 Friedrich lived in Wisniewko, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia) in 1848.7 He lived in Czerlin, Posen Province, Pruessen (Prussia) between 1857 and 1860.7 He died before 1880 at the age of 67 in Wisconsin.8,9,10 (His wife was listed alone on the church Communion Register in 1889 and as a "widow" in the 1880 and 1900 Census.)

Friedrich Gottfried MITTELSTAEDT and Anna Catharina "Kate" SCHMALZ were married on 7 November 1841 in Gollantsch, Kreis Wongrowitz, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).2,7,11,12 From the research of Matthew Mittelstaedt: "In my (seemingly) never ending search for the Mittelstaedts in Posen I have a marriage record for Gottfried Mittelstaedt (age 28) and Anna Catharine Schmalz (age 19) being married in the protestant church at Gollantsh (Golancz) which is about 6 miles from two side-by-side villages called Wisniewo and Wisniewko--the second being very much like Wisehnewko, where Johann Mittelstaedt was born."
Anna Catharina "Kate" SCHMALZ2,8, daughter of (Unknown) SCHMALZ and (Unknown) UNKNOWN (SCHMALZ), was born on 5 October 1822 in Kreis Obornik, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).8,10,11,13,14 (The 1900 Census lists her birth date as September 1822 and her age as 77.) She emigrated in 1873 from Preussen (Prussia).8 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.10 She was living with her son John and his family. Kate appeared in the census in 1900 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.8 She was living with her son John and his family. She was Lutheran in 1900 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.15 and was listed on the Membership Roster of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She died on 21 April 1905 at the age of 82 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.13,14,16 Kate was buried on 24 April 1905 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.13,14 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery. (Her surname may have been "Schmalz.") (She was listed as "Caterena" in the 1900 Census.)

He appeared in the census in 1880 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.10 He was living with his mother in the household of his brother John and his family.
