(In the 1900 Census, his birth date appears to be listed as October 1837 and his age as 62.) He emigrated in 1865 from Preussen (Prussia).7,10 He appeared in the census in 1870 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.3 He was listed as "Charles" and his occupation was "Farmer." His household consisted of Charles, age 32; his wife, Louise, age 30; four children from Louise's first marriage: William, 12; Herman, 10; Louise, 7; and Bertha, 4; and two children from her marriage to Charles: August, 2; and Robert, 9/12. (It is doubtful that Robert was their son, but he was listed in the Census as such.)
Charles appeared in the census in 1880 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.2 His household consisted of "Charles," age 48, occupation "Farmer;" his wife, "Sinviane" (not legible), age 44; and their children, Bertha, age 14; August, age 12; "Jule," age 10; and Rudolph, age 8. The birth places of Charles and his wife were listed as Prussia, and that of the children was Wisconsin. (His surname is listed in the Ancestry.com census record index as "Offeldt.") Karl Friedrich Wilhelm "Charles" AFFELDT and Anna "Louise" ZELLMER were married on 2 April 1867.1,3,7,13,14

(The June 1870 Census listed a Robert Affeldt as a "son" of Charles and Louise, with an age of 9/12 years old and a birth month of October 1869. Because he was not listed with their family in the 1880 Census or in their church communion record in 1889, he may have died as a young boy. A more likely possibility is that, because Robert's birth date was within four months of the birth date of another son, Julius--February 1870--it is likely that Robert was not their son. Descendants of Charles and Louise state that they had never heard of a son named Robert, so it is likely that he was not a member of the family, but was just living in their household at the time of the Census.) Anna "Louise" ZELLMER, daughter of Wilhelm Christoph ZELLMER and Anna Gustina Auguste MEIER, was born on 19 May 1835 in Jankendorf, Kreis Kolmar, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,9,15,16 She appeared in the census in 1860 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.17 She appeared in the census in 1870 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.3 Louise appeared in the census in 1880 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.2 She died on 28 May 1898 at the age of 63 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.1,7,9,15,16 She was buried on 30 May 1898 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.1,15 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.
