Obituary Notes: "Helen A. Peth, age 96, of Tomah, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at the Serenity House in Tomah. She was born April 11, 1908, to Albert and Anna (Gurske) Sonnenburg in the Town of Sheldon. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilton on May 24, 1908, and confirmed in March of 1919 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Ridgeville.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Peth Oct. 9, 1929. They farmed on Dorset Ridge until 1955, when they moved to Tomah. He preceded her in death Nov. 7, 1969. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress for Jerry Keene at the Band Box in Tomah, she also worked at Fort McCoy sewing uniforms for the military. She worked at Habelman's cranberry marsh during the harvest season. Helen was the family seamstress as well; her granddaughters hold close to their heart special fond feelings for the wedding garments she made for them. Helen made baby blankets for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also made quilts as wedding or birthday gifts for all her grandchildren. She loved her family and was pleased and proud of all their successes and accomplishments. She was always grateful for the time she spent with family and appreciated their visits. Helen was a serious card player and was happy to teach anyone who wanted to learn how to play cards. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Arlie) Jenks of Tomah and Aleda (Gene) Moseley of Warrens; two sons, DeVere (Shirley) and Larry (Marlene), of Tomah; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Peth of Tomah; 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Betcher of Tomah; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; a son Gary; a grandson, Randall Peth; a great-grandson, Jonathan Nicks; two brothers, Elmer and Marvin; and a sister, Irma Krause.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church; Pastor Phillip M. Enderle will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, Tomah. Relatives and friends are invited to call today (Monday) from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of the services.

The family requests memorials be given to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church or the Serenity House, c/o Tomah Hospice Touch, 300 Butts Ave., Tomah, in Helen's memory."
